Electrochemically assisted photocatalysis for the disinfection of rainwater under solar irradiation

In this work a photo electrochemical reactor (PEC) with compound parabolic collector (CPC) has been designed and tested for the electrochemically assisted photocatalytic (EAP) disinfection of rainwater under real sun conditions in South Africa. The consisted Ti mesh coated aligned titania nanotubes carbon counter electrode concentric tubular configuration, within borosilicate glass tube CPC. Environmental strains Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa were used. viability microorganisms was analysed by culture-based EMA-qPCR methods. during winter Africa relatively low UV irradiance (max: 13 Wm-2). Under irradiation, EAP yielded 5.5-log10 reduction E. 5.8-log10 P. analysis. treatment also showed improved results analysis 2.4-log10 gene copies 3.0-log10 aeruginosa.
